Silversea releases details of new Galapagos ship

Silversea has released details and images of its new ship designed specifically for the Galapagos Islands.

Silver Origin will sail from summer 2020 and claims to be one of the most environmentally-friendly ships ever built.

Basecamp will host educational activities and feature an interactive digital wall where guests will be able to access destination-related content, including pictures, videos, excursion previews and scientific presentations.

The Explorer Lounge features floor-to-ceiling windows for views of the destination and will host daily briefings and lectures from the ship’s expedition team.

Located at the front of the ship, the Observation Lounge features a library, with a destination-focused collection of books.

The 100-passenger ship will have eight suite categories. All suites have a private balcony, while others will feature a Horizon Balcony, which can convert to enclose the balcony with a floor-to-ceiling window for added space and shelter from the elements.

Selected suite categories will incorporate an ocean-view bathtub, as well as an ocean-view shower that is accessible from the balcony.

Two dining venues, The Restaurant and The Grill, will serve Ecuadorian-inspired cuisine.

The ship’s positioning system will allow it to maintain position to protect the sea floor, while fresh water purification systems will help reduce the consumption of single-use plastic bottles.

Roberto Martinoli, Silversea’s chief executive, said: “Silver Origin will elevate our industry-leading offering in the Galapagos Islands, unlocking meaningful experiences for guests, as they travel in ultimate luxury.

“Ever since the early planning phases, every decision on Silver Origin has been made to strengthen the connection between our guests and this spectacular, unique destination.”

Meanwhile, Silversea has announced a new food programme, .S.A.L.T. , (Sea and Land Taste) for new ship Silver Moon in August 2020.

The food will showcase cuisine from around the world in eight restaurants including The Grill, Japanese restaurnat Kaiseki and an immersive dining experience in the .S.A.L.T. Kitchen which will replace Indochine.
