Rosewood unveils further details about first Spanish property

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has unveiled further details about its first hotel in Spain ahead of the property’s opening this autumn.

The brand confirmed a deal to manage iconic Spanish property Hotel Villa Magna last July alongside Mexican hotel and real estate group RLH Properties, which acquired the hotel on the Paseo de la Castellana in 2018.

The property is currently undergoing an extensive refurbishment before reopening as Rosewood Villa Magna later this year.

Four design studios have been commissioned to manage the hotel’s refurbishment, with the aim to “convey the original allure” of the former Madrid palace while also reflecting RLH Properties’ and Rosewood’s “contemporary spirit and commitment to residential design”.

Renowned Spanish architect Ramón de Arana is remodelling the hotel’s exteriors and façade, while interior design is being led by BAR Studio, an Australian firm that has worked on projects including Rosewood Phuket and the upcoming Rosewood Rome, set to open in 2023.

UK-based ArtLink is curating the hotel’s contemporary art collection and Spanish landscape architect Gregorio Marañón is undertaking the transformation of the property’s gardens.

Rosewood also announced the appointment of Spanish chef Jesús Sánchez, recognised with three Michelin stars for his Cantabrian restaurant El Cenador de Amós, who will lead the gastronomic offerings at the hotel’s new specialty restaurant based on Cantabric cuisine.

Once complete, Rosewood Villa Magna will feature 154 rooms and suites and a Rosewood spa, including a gym, treatment rooms and a Turkish hammer.

The property will be the brand’s fourth property in Europe, joining Rosewood London, Rosewood Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco in Tuscany and Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel in Paris.

A further eight projects are in development in the region.
