Historic Palm Springs villa opens as boutique hotel

A 38-room boutique hotel has opened in Palm Springs, California, with artworks celebrating the property’s links to Hollywood stars.

Originally built in 1947, Villa Royale was a popular retreat for Hollywood actors who headed east to Palm Springs for rest and relaxation.

The redesigned Villa Royale is now an adults-only hotel with three outdoor pools offering mountain views.

The hotel is home to more than 50 original oil paintings of pop culture icons, desert landscapes and classic cars.

Three artists were commissioned to create these artworks to celebrate the hotel’s Hollywood heritage and portraits include Debbie Harry, Clark Gable and Lana Turner.

The ‘jewel in the crown’ of the hotel is the Evelyn Pell Villa, named in honour of the hotel’s original owner. It offers a private desert garden, hot tub and lounge area.
