Designer Travel donates laptop to school in memory of Angela Mayall

Designer Travel has donated a laptop and other supplies to a school in South Africa in memory of colleague Angela Mayall, who died in June.

The agency’s co-owner Karen Pocock visited Tihageng Primary School, Madikwe, earlier this week to bring the laptop, along with pink paper and new pencils.
Previously the pupils had no laptop to use.

Angela and Karen had visited the area last year with other colleagues on a trip with luxury operator Carrier and Bespoke Earth.

The village is near Jaci’s Lodges in the Madikwe Game Reserve in South Africa’s North-West Province, where they had stayed for two nights.

“We wanted to do something in Angela’s memory so we asked the team at Jaci’s who contacted the school,” said Karen.

“The children did not have a laptop and with over 150 students, aged between seven and 12, they really needed one. They also wanted some paper and pencils.”

Karen and fellow co-owner Amanda Matthews bought the laptop and stationery. Designer Travel business development manager Di Victory organised and paid for the laptop cover, which features a picture of Angela and the message: “Donated by Designer Travel in memory of our much-loved colleague Angela Mayall.”

Karen said: “Angela loved it here, so it seemed only fitting to do something that would benefit the local village.

“I think she would have approved. A tearful day but happy at the same time.”

Amanda added: “We are trying so hard and in as many ways as we can to keep Angela’s legacy alive and this will be one of many.”
