Crystal signs deal for two new ocean ships
Crystal has signed a memorandum of agreement to build two new ocean ships.
The 690-passenger ships will be constructed by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, with the first vessel expected to be delivered in spring 2028.
Both ships will feature all-suite accommodation with private verandas, as well as single occupancy suites for solo travellers. Other features will include a spa, fitness centre, casino, dedicated children’s activity area and a promenade that covers the ship’s perimeter.
The culinary offering will include Umi Una, which is the only Nobu restaurant at sea, and a Beefbar venue.
Architectural firms Studio Ibsen and Studio Gem, along with a third firm yet to be appointed, will be in charge of the ships’ design, which will feature Italian fabrics and natural materials.
The announcement follows A&K Travel Group’s acquisition of Crystal in 2022.
The group’s executive chairman, Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio, said: “This order is another milestone in the 40 years of productive collaboration between Fincantieri and my family, which started with Sitmar Cruises, continued with Silversea and now is flourishing again with Crystal.”
Pierroberto Folgiero, Fincantieri’s chief executive, added: “This order not only highlights the robust recovery of the cruise sector, in line with our industrial plan, but also reaffirms Fincantieri’s leadership, thanks to the operational excellence of our shipyards and the execution quality of our world-class supply chain.
“We are thrilled to partner with Crystal in our pursuit of innovation and excellence.”
Crystal has also secured the option to build a third sister ship with delivery in 2032.
