Black Tomato launches children’s story-inspired collection

Black Tomato has launched a collection of family travel itineraries inspired by classic children’s stories.

The brand’s Take Me on a Story collection went on sale today featuring five bespoke itineraries in destinations that inspire iconic tales such as Alice in Wonderland and Treasure Island.

The Alice in Wonderland itinerary in Oxfordshire includes a five-night stay at Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons and activities such as an interactive tea party and foraging in forests.

Clients can also head to Alaska on a nine-night trip themed around Jack London’s 1903 novel Call of the Wild, where they’ll navigate glaciers by raft and pan for gold with historians.

A six-night Morocco itinerary inspired by the Arabian Nights folk tales includes a camelback and 4x4 experience in the High Atlas Mountains, while a seven-night trip to the British Virgin Islands inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island features a private catamaran charter of the Dog Islands and a stargazing bonfire experience.

Black Tomato is also offering a six-night itinerary to Iceland themed around Jules Verne’s Journey to the Centre of the Earth, where families will learn outdoor skills such as fire-making and cartography and visit lava caves and glaciers.

The brand said the launch was prompted by a “huge appetite” for multi-generational travel among its clients, with a 70% increase in bookings over the past two months and a 55% increase in average spend per family.

“We cast our eyes to the enchanting world of classic children’s literature to stir creativity, instill enticing learning opportunities and capture the imagination of children of all ages by harnessing the transformative nature of travel,” said co-founder Tom Marchant.

“After the hardships of last year, being able to transport both children and adults into these rich, whimsical worlds feels like the ultimate joyful way to reconnect with family and welcome back the magic of travel.

“As a father myself and following the journeys of many clients that have grown with us over the years, it’s a personal delight to see these stories come to life. This is a collection we will continue to grow by inviting clients to shape our offerings with their favourite books that can inspire their family travels.

“We believe these trips will not only provide an engaging, experiential platform for education, but importantly inspire wanderlust and excitement, in the build- up to travel.”
