Luxury tented safari camp will reopen in June
Virgin Limited Edition’s luxury tented safari camp Mahali Mzuri in Kenya’s Maasai Mara is set to undergo a full interior refurbishment before reopening in June.
The project will include a redesign of the camp’s 12 luxury tents and common areas, including the dining tent, bar and lounge, and swimming pool.
Refurbished suites will feature spacious, open-plan living areas and wraparound terraces.
Virgin Limited Edition said the new-look property, designed in partnership with interior design studio Lynne Hunt London, would offer “a contemporary interpretation of African style”.
The design will incorporate natural materials and an earthy colour palette with touches of red and black to honour traditional Maasai attire. Decor will also showcase artwork by East African artists.
General manager Wilson Odhiambo said: “I am thrilled to announce this exciting refurbishment of our beloved camp and to have the opportunity to encourage our guests to connect even further with Mahal Mzuri’s majestic surroundings and, of course, the wildlife.
“Our continued partnership with the local Maasai people is at the heart of everything we do, and I’m delighted to be able to celebrate local culture and craftsmanship through a refreshed designed incorporating custom Maasai beadwork and bronze spear finials, among other elements.”
The property will maintain its commitment to sustainability and community initiatives.
Currently, 80% of staff are employed from the local community and a solar farm allows the camp to run on up to 100% renewable energy.
Rates at Mahali Mzuri start from $1,100 per tent per night and bookings are open for stays from June.
