Claridge’s Hotel unveils first spa

The first and long-awaited spa from famed Mayfair hotel Claridge’s opened today (September 26).

The large-scale excavation project saw a team of experts dig five floors beneath the Maybourne Hotel Group-owned property to uncover the 7,000-square-foot wellness space.

Located three floors below the hotel, Claridge’s Spa was designed by interior architect Andre Fu, who is said to have been inspired by his visits to traditional Japanese temples and Zen gardens in Kyoto.

Central to the space is a heated swimming pool surrounded by a multi-vaulted ceiling, stone columns and cabanas set back from the water.

Elsewhere, guests will find a monochrome lobby, steam rooms, a sauna and seven oak-panelled, ensuite treatment rooms.

Claridge’s Spa will offer a range of wellness rituals including restorative body work, the latest bio-innovation and two signature treatments: a 90-minute Bamboo & Silk Ritual massage and a 75-minute Body Detox & Sculpt treatment targeting the thighs, abdomen and upper arms.

All guests will be given kimonos to wear and a welcome foot ‘ceremony’. Treatments will end with a choice of incense to inhale and the sonorous sound of bells.

Resident brands at the spa include Augustinus Bader, FaceGym and La Eva.

The space is also home to Josh Wood at Claridge’s, a dedicated hair and beauty space headed up by celebrated British hair colour expert Josh Wood. The partnership marks Wood’s first outpost in Mayfair. The salon features just two chairs to ensure privacy and intimacy, with treatments spanning hair, nails and beauty.

An ever-evolving roster of visiting wellness masters will also be featured, with experts currently including nail artist Harriet Westmoreland and acupuncturist Ross J. Barr.

“We have created a spa here at Claridge’s where guests will find both holistic practices and results driven high-tech all under one roof,” said Maybourne Hotel Group’s creative director of spa and wellness, Inge Theron, who conceptualised Claridge’s Spa.

“Claridge’s has long been a temple of good living with a philosophy of enjoying life to the full, and so now, as well as pouring guests the perfect martini, we can also rejuvenate and restore with the perfect treatment, to strike that all important balance.

“The Claridge’s Spa service style is inspired by and reflects this great, legendary hotel. The attention to detail that has been in place here for centuries – the way we steep our tea, the way we make our beds – is reflected in this new space, from handmade poultices made daily by our team with the seasonal ingredient, the way our saunas are complete with star-like twinkling lights, and silk thimbles are used by our incredible therapists for exfoliation during facials. Claridge’s Spa is the very beginning of a new wellness journey for Maybourne Hotel Group.’

Claridge’s Spa is open to both hotel and outside guests and is open Monday-Sunday 8am-9pm.
