60 seconds with… Classic Collection’s Phil Shipman

Q. Classic Collection signed up to be more engaged with Aspire. Tell us about your plans for the luxury market.

We saw an opportunity to engage with Aspire and further cement our position as a luxury tour operator with new agents, who perhaps haven’t thought of Classic Collection for their high-spend customers. This is driven by agents asking us to be more involved with Aspire to really get the message across that the business is evolving. We know luxury is a market we very much want to be a part of, so we are constantly looking at our product and partner properties to make sure we have the right portfolio to attract that segment of customer, combined with the high level of service our agents expect.

Q. How has Classic Collection evolved over the years?

There have been many changes made recently to make us even more relevant in the luxury market. Traditionally, we were always thought of for short-haul beach destinations, predominantly selling to couples. But the brand has evolved and we now travel to many long-haul destinations including the Caribbean, Indian Ocean, Africa and even Asia. Our audience is changing – we’re booking more families and have a younger client base who are new to Classic.

Q. What is your message to agents who haven’t previously worked with Classic Collection?

Give us a try – so much has changed from our processes to our product. We are committed to offering excellent service to our agent partners and looking after clients in resort. Our booking values have increased along with the number of luxury bookings. Our range of private tours has been well received by agents and more of their customers are opting for bespoke and tailor-made itineraries.
