Wymara Resort to introduce guest surcharge in aid of reef fund

Wymara Resort and Villas has introduced an optional $2 per night surcharge for all guests in a bid to raise an anticipated annual $50,000 donation for the Turks & Caicos Reef Fund.

Established in 2010, the Reef Fund works to preserve, protect and restore the marine ecosystem around the islands.

Executive director of the Turks & Caicos Reef Fund, Alizée Zimmerman, said: “We are incredibly grateful for this partnership with Wymara.

"The additional $50,000 per year in guest donations will allow us to significantly increase our conservation initiatives.

"From creating new moorings to expanding our coral nurseries for reef restoration, we will be able to accomplish so much more!”

Guests at Wymara can join in with reef restoration efforts during their stay at the property - which features 91 rooms and a private villa collection – or adopt a coral.

The initiative is in addition to various other actions to support the surrounding environment including stocking reef-safe sun cream and donating a percentage of proceeds from sustainable dishes served at the resort’s restaurants to the Reef Fund.

Chief executive of Wymara, Shelley Rincon, said: “The exceptional marine environment around the islands is one of the highlights for any guest and we want to do everything we can to ensure that we help guests to travel responsibly and sustainably.”
