Villa d’Este Hotels acquires private residence on Lake Como

Villa d’Este Hotels has acquired a private residence on Lake Como.

Villa Belinzaghi sits adjacent to Villa d’Este directly on the shores of the lake and is set within two acres of gardens complete with a pier and a dock.

The villa was previously owned by Villa d’Este but was sold in 1927. It re-joins the portfolio as a private residence which will be available for events, weddings and exclusive-use stays.

Villa Belinzaghi was originally built in 1860 by Milanese banker Giulio Belinzaghi, Mayor of Cernobbio, who later became Mayor of Milan. Belinzaghi is credited with transforming Villa d’Este into a luxury hotel in 1873 alongside other nobles from Lombardy.

A statement from Villa d’Este Hotels said the three-floor property would be “meticulously restored” over the next two years to enhance its historic features while introducing modern amenities "for the 21st century audience”.

The owner of Villa d’Este Hotels, Dr. Giuseppe Fontana, said Villa Belinzaghi represented "another cornerstone" of its investment strategy.

"It is an important real estate asset and a fundamental addition to our portfolio," he said.

"We will have another exclusive location that can host private events, like weddings, offering ultimate privacy."

Davide Bertilaccio, chief executive of Villa d’Este Hotels, added: "We are really proud of this acquisition. It is a piece of history that rejoins that of the hotel and is extremely important in terms of our development plans, as well as maintaining our heritage by projecting ourselves into the future.”
