‘Sustainably minded’ trio of luxury properties to open in Santorini

A new collection of “sustainably minded” luxury properties in Santorini is set to open between April and May this year under the Greek, family-owned hospitality company Metaxa Hospitality Group.

Santo Collection will comprise existing five-star boutique resort Santo Pure Oia Suites & Villas, originally named Santo Maris Oia Luxury Suites & Spa; Santo Mine, a new luxury resort with 37 suites; and The Villas by Santo Collection, two new independent four-bedroom luxury villas.

The newly rebranded Santo Pure Oia Suites & Villas will reopen on April 20 with the addition of 20 new suites, extending the resort’s capacity to 83 suites and two villas.

The property is separated into six neighbourhoods with Mediterranean gardens centred around six pools to resemble a typical Santorinian village. The propety is a five-minute walk from Oia.

The resort will continue to offer spa and wellness treatments at the Anassa spa, fine dining food at Alios Ilios and all-day dining and drinks at Akratos Poolside Bar. The resort has a sustainable farm-to-table ethos with the aim of becoming zero-waste to landfill by using herbs, fruits, vegetables and nuts grown in the property’s organic gardens.

Meanwhile, adult-only Santo Mine is carved into the cliffs on the site of an old stone mine above Ammoudi Bay, an 11-minute walk via a private footpath to the centre of Oia.

Each suite comes with a private pool or Jacuzzi. Interiors are inspired by Santorini’s rugged landscape, featuring natural materials from local suppliers including stone, ceramics, wood, marble and copper, earthy tones and ‘Cycladic minimalism’. The design of the suites also includes planted roofs and carefully selected lighting to reduce the resort’s environmental impact.

Santo Mine will feature a new restaurant and all-day wine bar, as well as a wine cellar serving local and international wines, a spa and an outdoor gym.

Sister property The Villas by Santo Collection is located in the western part of Oia.

Its two four-bedroom villas offer an outdoor living concept with outdoor and indoor kitchens, BBQ areas and Jacuzzis. Each villa also features an outdoor swimming pool, fitness room, sauna, butler’s room, large veranda with an outdoor seating area and elevated landscaped gardens with views over the Greek islands.

Guests have access to their own personal concierge service to organise private chefs, spa services and excursions such as private yacht and helicopter tours.

Both villas are interconnected and can be combined to create an eight-bedroom villa sleeping 16 guests.

Both Santo Mine and The Villas by Santo Collection will open on May 1.

Guests staying at Santo Mine and Santo Pure will be able to use the spa facilities, restaurants and amenities at both properties. Adult guests over the age of 12 staying in The Villas by Santo Collection will also be able to use the facilities at Santo Pure and Santo Mine.

Rates for Santo Pure start from £278 per night and from £584 per night for Santo Mine. Rates for The Villas by Santo Collection start from £5,190 per night per villa and from £10,382 for a combined eight-bedroom villa (with a minimum six-night stay).
