Cunard ship Queen Mary 2 will go into dry dock in the French city of Brest on Friday ahead of its return to service in November.

The line’s president Simon Palethorpe said the dry dock at Damen shipyard will prepare the 2,691-passenger ship (pictured) for its resumption and ensure guest spaces are in the “finest condition”.

Three-ship line Cunard resumed operations with UK voyages on Queen Elizabeth earlier this month. The ship is scheduled to resume international voyages in October.

Palethorpe said: “We want to ensure that Queen Mary 2 is checked throughout as we prepare for this return to sailing.”

Damen shipyard can accommodate vessels up to 420 metres in length and is one of the largest dry docks in northwest Europe, according to the company’s website.

Rogier van der Laan, Damen ship repair and conversion global cruise product manager, said: “The preparation for the return to service of this most iconic cruise liner is not only a very important occasion for our organisation but also for the Brest community as a whole.”
