Oetker Collection to open its first hotel in the United States

Oetker Collection has confirmed plans to take over iconic Palm Beach property The Chesterfield as its first hotel in the United States.

The Florida property is set to undergo a “top-to-bottom” renovation and will reopen as The Vineta Hotel in Palm Beach in late 2023.

Oetker has once again partnered with private equity, real estate investment and development duo the Reuben Brothers, who also worked with the hotel brand on recent opening The Woodward in Geneva and forthcoming property Hotel La Palma in Capri.

The Vineta Hotel is situated in the heart of Palm Beach, two blocks away from Worth Avenue, known for its designer boutiques, art galleries and restaurants, and minutes away from the beach.

The near-100-year-old property originally opened as the Lido-Venice in 1926. It was shortly thereafter named The Vineta and remained so for 50 years. The property became a condo for a brief period before re-emerging as The Chesterfield in 1989.

Oetker said the new iteration of the property would “pay homage to the hotel’s legacy” and marks its 12th so-called Masterpiece Hotel.

“This is a monumental moment in the brand’s history as we announce our first Masterpiece Hotel in the United States,” said Timo Gruenert, chief executive of Oetker Collection.

“Many of our existing guests have long visited or are residents of Palm Beach, and we therefore look forward to extending Oetker Collection’s unique hospitality ethos based on our values of family spirit, elegance and genuine kindness, to this wonderful town with The Vineta Hotel.”

Jamie Reuben of Reuben Brothers added: “We are incredibly excited to be working with Oetker Collection on The Vineta Hotel in Palm Beach – a place very close to my and my family’s heart. With Oetker Collection’s renowned and refined approach to luxury hospitality, I am confident that the hotel will become a staple in Palm Beach for generations to come.”

The renovation of the property will be led by Paris-based interior designer Tino Zervudachi and will see the room count reduced from 53 to 41.

On the ground floor, The Vineta Hotel will offer four different “environments”.

The former Leopard Lounge will undergo a full transformation to offer laid-back lunches and buzzy dinners, while The courtyard will re-emerge as an al fresco dining destination .

Oetker will also introduce a new statement bar, offering a play on the ‘American Bar’, and a newly created Mediterranean-inspired, indoor-outdoor poolside restaurant.

“The concept behind the interior design for The Vineta Hotel is to infuse it with a fresh Palm Beach feel by bringing in clean lines, a relaxed ambiance, and a stylish and younger feeling palette of colours,” said Zervudachi.

“It’s my aim to create a real new venue for visitors and residents alike – taking extra care to enhance the exterior dining spaces both at the pool and the courtyard – by establishing a cosmopolitan look that blends European design cues with the destination’s unmistakable aesthetic.”
