Maybourne Hotel Group to open fourth hotel in London

The owner of London hotels Claridge’s, The Connaught and The Berkeley has confirmed plans to open its fourth hotel in the capital.

The Emory will be located in Knightsbridge and is scheduled to open this winter.

The property, designed by the late Richard Rogers and Ivan Harbour of architectural firm RSHP, features a striking ‘sails’ structure with views over Hyde Park. Maybourne Hotel Group said the hotel would be a “modern architectural masterpiece” and would “herald a new standard of contemporary design and discreet luxury”.

The all-suite property will feature 60 suites set over nine floors. Each floor will showcase the aesthetic of a different interior designer including Alexandra Champalimaud, André Fu, Pierre-Yves Rochon, Rémi Tessier and Patricia Urquiola. A top-floor penthouse has been designed by London-based design studio Rigby & Rigby.

The Emory will have a private entrance on Old Barrack Yard, a private rooftop dedicated to hotel guests with 360-degree views over London, and an underground wellness space set across four floors featuring a 22-metre pool.

Culinary options will include a new outpost of highly acclaimed Manhattan restaurant ABC Kitchen from renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, who specialises in fresh, local and conscious cuisine.

Hotelier Knut Wylde will take up the role of The Emory’s general manager in addition to his existing role as general manager of The Berkeley.

The Emory will mark the group’s sixth hotel, joining international properties The Maybourne Beverly Hills and The Maybourne Riviera.

“This is our first new London property in 50 years, and we believe it will be a truly ground breaking new addition to our distinguished hotel family,” said Maybourne Hotel Group chief executive Gianluca Muzzi.

“We plan to bring the inspiration and creative energy that have made our other hotels so notable, whilst also making The Emory a world class hub of art and culture. This opening further cements our vision and commitment to growing Maybourne Hotel Group, and heralds a bold new future for the company.”
