The international airport in Mauritius has reopened after it was closed due to a severe tropical storm warning.

SSR International Airport was forced to shut this morning while Air Mauritius cancelled flights from Gatwick and Paris due to the risk of heavy rain.

Having reopened this afternoon after conditions improved, the airport has urged travellers to contact their respective airlines for further information on the status of their flights.

It is advising passengers not to travel to the airport unless they have received confirmation of their departure time.

The Foreign Office website has been updated to reflect the improvements in the weather.

It states: “Cyclone class warnings in Mauritius have now been lifted. Severe Tropical Storm Eleanor is moving away from Mauritius.

“However, there may still be risks to safety. You should stay in a safe place [and] follow updates from local authorities closely.”
