Explorer Serengeti is located in Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park
Elewana Collection has unveiled the first property under its new safari lodge collection.
The Explorer by Elewana portfolio offers “upscale, contemporary” lodges which cater to a wider audience through a more moderate price point.
Located on the Nyaboro Hills in Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park, Explorer Serengeti features 68 rooms and six suites with private balconies, including interconnecting rooms and some with wheelchair access.
The property was built on the former site of Serengeti Sopa Lodge. It has maintained the original room count and recycled many of the original structure’s materials to cause minimal environmental impact.
The lodge is also home to Serengeti National Park’s first on-site hide, overlooking a watering hole and accessed via an underground tunnel from the lodge.
The main restaurant and poolside bistro feature a farm-to-table ethos, while Boma offers a bush dinner experience with African and Swahili dishes served outside. Guests can also enjoy the Divai chef’s table experience, which is set in the property’s wine cellar.
Alongside game drives, guests can expect activities such as children’s bushcraft, walking safaris, stargazing and an outdoor cinema.
There is also an on-site art gallery showcasing local talent, a retail centre selling local crafts and a photo studio with technology for guests to develop their images.
The opening of Explorer Serengeti will be followed by Ngorongoro Explorer in 2026 and Tarangire Explorer at a later date.
Group chairman and chief executive Karim Wissanji said: “The launch of Explorer by Elewana marks an exciting milestone for our group. This upscale safari lodge concept, set in the renowned wildlife-rich regions of Northern Tanzania, fills a unique niche by targeting the needs and price point of the mid-market safari guest.
“Explorer promises a range of immersive safari experiences within Unesco World Heritage-listed natural landscapes. Consistent with every Elewana property, Explorer will be characterised by exemplary service, remarkable wildlife encounters and a deep connection to nature.
“Our commitment to conservation and community engagement, a cornerstone of our ethos, will continue to be at the heart of everything we do.”
Rates for Explorer Serengeti start from $750 per room per night on a full-board basis.
