Domes Resorts confirms opening date for Portuguese hotel

Domes Resorts’ first property outside of Greece will open on April 9.

The luxury hotel brand confirmed it had acquired Lake Spa Resort in Vilamoura in southern Portugal last November.

The property will reopen next month as Domes Lakes Algarve following phase one of a large-scale refurbishment. It will be the group’s first year-round hotel.

The resort comprises 192 rooms and suites, many of which overlook the property’s gardens, pools and lake. The hotel also features the brand’s Haute Living Selection, which provides a ‘hotel-within-a-hotel’ experience for travellers seeking space and privacy.

Domes Lakes Algarve is home to its own private saltwater lake and private access to Praia de Falesia beach, as well as four swimming pools and a 1.2km deck.

The property offers a selection of culinary options that fuse the Greek heritage of Domes Resorts with traditional Portuguese flavours. Guests can enjoy a cocktail on the lake, Neo-Greek seafood at Topos, or a 12-course tasting menu with fresh and seasonal produce and wine pairings at Makris On The Lake.

The Soma Spa is said to combine ancient Greek methods with contemporary healing techniques with products from Elemis and Godage Paris.

The hotel’s programme for children, Kiepos Kids Club, takes an eco-conscious approach with interactive and educational experiences that include encouraging children to plant their own greens, herbs and flowers.

Activities at the hotel include clam and oyster picking, birdwatching, sailing and wine tasting. The hotel is also a short walk from Vilamoura’s famous marina, the wetlands, Ria Formosa Natural Park, restaurants, beach clubs and golf courses.

In 2023, Domes Lake Algarve will undergo further renovations to upgrade the property’s offering. This will include the additions of an adult-only beach club and swimming pool and the Domes Resorts’ Core concept to feature open-air shopping and restaurant options, as well as the refurbishment of all rooms.
