COMO Hotels and Resorts opens first hotel in Italy

COMO Hotels and Resorts has opened a new property in Tuscany, Italy.

The luxury hotel group has taken over a 12-century castle on a 740-acre estate in the Chianti wine region.

COMO Castello del Nero marks the group’s fifteenth property and its first in mainland Europe.

A 30-minute drive from Florence and Siena, the hotel comprises 50 guest rooms, with surrounding facilities including tennis courts, a heated outdoor swimming pool, a wellness-focussed COMO Shambhala Retreat and three restaurants, including the Michelin-starred La Torre.

The group worked with Milanese interior designer Paola Navone to retain the property's historic features - such as terracotta flooring and vaulted ceilings - while introducing a modern aesthetic throughout.

Olivier Jolivet, CEO of the COMO Group, said: “COMO Castello Del Nero is the holistic next step of growing our portfolio of hotels and resorts in select destinations around the world. We don’t intend to be the biggest lifestyle brand, but our objective is to be one of the best - with offerings in the most desirable locations.”

He added: “COMO Castello Del Nero, our fifteenth hotel, has the right features for us to deliver a personalised COMO experience; the Castello's history and the new design by Paola Navone blending perfectly with the rest of our portfolio.”
