Banyan Tree Group to open eight properties this year

Banyan Tree Group is scheduled to open eight hotels in 2021 as part of a global expansion programme targeting 35 new properties over the next three years.

The hotel group - whose brands include Banyan Tree, Angsana, Cassia and Dhawa - will enter three new regions in 2021, with debut properties in the Middle East, Europe and Africa.

In March, Banyan Tree Group will open Dhawa Quzhou, an integrated resort in Quzhou in China’s Zhejiang province comprising three of the group’s key brands: Banyan Tree, Angsana and Dhawa.

Featuring views of Qu River and the Deer Park Peninsula, the 191-key hotel will be themed around rivers and mountains with a restaurant, lobby lounge and rooftop bar.

In April, the group will open its first outpost in Europe in Corfu, Greece. The 69-key Angsana Corfu will be located south of Corfu Town, close to the village of Benitses, featuring contemporary pool villas, a spa, yoga deck and water sports.

Angsana Saranam in Bali is set to open in May. The 82-key wellbeing resort will feature an Angsana Spa and a multifunctional Activity Centre, Movement Space and Vitality Pool for hydrotherapy and aqua activities. The property will also boast an organic farm and offer harvest-to-dish activities.

Banyan Tree Group will unveil a new brand, Banyan Tree Escape, in July. Its first property will be located in Ubud, Bali and will offer a ‘no walls, no doors’ concept.

In autumn, Banyan Tree Nanjing Garden Expo, the first Banyan Tree resort in Tangshan in China’s Jiangsu province, will open in a mine valley, hidden by a cliff-top waterfall.

Positioned to be a leading hot spring and wellbeing destination, the hotel will boast 115 rooms with valley and cliff views and personal hot spring pools. There will also be a Banyan Tree spa, an indoor swimming pool with panoramic views and three dining venues.

In quarter four, the group will launch its first urban luxury resort in Qatar in the Middle East. Banyan Tree Doha at La Cigale Mushaireb will also be the first property developed under the Banyan Tree-Accor strategic partnership.

Located in the heart of Mushaireb, the resort sits within the Doha Oasis project which comprises a luxury department store, an indoor theme park and a cineplex.

The 341-key property is set to feature a Banyan Tree spa with hydrotherapy facilities, a fine-dining Thai restaurant and a 28-storey rooftop bar overlooking Doha’s skyline.

Angsana Siem Reap in Cambodia will open in October, close to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Angkor Wat. The property is set to offer 158 rooms, including 19 villas with private pools, as well as tropical gardens, a number of restaurant options and modern event spaces.

Lastly, in December, Banyan Tree Group will make its debut in Africa with a property on the private island of Ilha Caldeira in Mozambique.

Banyan Tree Ilha Caldeira (pictured) will feature 40 private pool villas with views of the Indian Ocean, the group’s signature Thai restaurant Saffron and a Banyan Tree Spa.

“Our robust momentum in business development and pipeline of new openings this year will continue to accelerate Banyan Tree Group's international presence as we chart and connect guests to new awe-inspiring destinations,” said Ho Kwon Ping, executive chairman of Banyan Tree Holdings.

“As a global independent hospitality company, we remain positive and resilient. As an evolving multi-branded ecosystem with Wellbeing and Sustainability at our core, we set our eyes on the global front to strategically grow our brands to global reach and range, amidst the extended travel recovery."
