Avalon Waterways christens latest suite ship

Avalon Waterways has finally christened its 14th suite ship Avalon View – two years after the vessel was delivered.

President Pam Hoffee told media and the US trade who attended Tuesday’s ceremony in Bratislava, Slovakia, that the line’s “mantra” for 2022 was to say “yes to travel”.

Hoffee explained how the 166-passenger vessel had some small changes compared with its sister vessels, which started coming into service in 2011.

“New glass balcony panels on the Avalon View provide an extra, exciting cruising outlook with completely unobstructed views,” she said.

“Even seasoned travellers have never seen or experienced the world like this.

“Today, the Avalon View joins an entire fleet of suite ships in Europe and southeast Asia. Each ship features our boutique-hotel inspired Panorama Suites, the industry’s only open-air balconies with the widest-opening windows in cruising that face the ever-changing scenery.

“We’ve not changed one inch of what our guests already loved.”

The ship has two decks of its signature 200-square-foot Panorama Suites while both 300-square-foot Royal Suites are located on the upper deck. There are also 16 172-square-foot Deluxe Staterooms on board.

Guests gathered on the banks of the Danube as Avalon View’s godmother Meredith Vieira formally blessed the ship by smashing a bottle against its side.

The multiple Emmy award-winning host, TV producer and anchor said: “May all aboard her travel safely with eyes wide open to the wonders that await. And what a fitting name. I now christen thee, the Avalon View. Take a little time to enjoy it.”

Hoffee added: “Demand for small ship cruising will continue to grow as long as we inspire travellers.”

Avalon View will offer several Danube itineraries including Taste of the Danube; Danube Symphony; Active & Discovery on the Danube; and a Storyteller Series cruise with Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn.
