Amalfi Coast gains new luxury boutique hotel

A new luxury boutique hotel has opened on the Amalfi Coast.

Borgo Santandrea welcomed its first guests last week as part of a soft-opening period, which will run until April 2022.

The cliffside property, set 90 metres above sea level, is the result of a "meticulous" three-year restoration project, which aimed to combine the 1960s building's mid-century features with classic Mediterranean style.

White and blue hues feature throughout the hotel alongside geometric hand-painted tiles, antique furniture and hand-crafted pieces by local Amalfitano artisans, including Italian marble from Puglia, Veneto and Tuscany; hand-blown Venetian glass lamps; and Heritage Collection pieces by leading Italian designer Molteni.

Borgo Santandrea features 29 guest rooms and 16 suites, with each featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and views of the sea and the ancient fisherman’s hamlet of Conca dei Marini.

Three restaurants - La Libreria, Alici and The Beach Club - and two bars located at the highest points of the hotel offer classic Mediterranean fare using local products and ingredients.

A series of walkways and staircases weaving through terraced gardens of olive and lemon trees lead to the hotel’s private beach and jetty, which can also be accessed by lift.

General manager Maurizio Orlacchio said: “We are so excited to open the doors to Borgo Santandrea. It has been a beautiful challenge, over the past three years, to restore the property and I feel proud to have brought so many talented artisans and iconic Italian brands together to create a one-of-a-kind hotel that is truly ‘Made in Italy’.

“We feel Borgo Santandrea is much more a home than a hotel and we look forward to welcoming our first guests this summer.”

Rooms during the soft-opening period start from £770 per night based on two people sharing a double room, including breakfast.
