Abercrombie & Kent is set to unveil a new mobile tented camp in Kenya next month.
The exclusive-use camp will service two locations across Kenya – the Masai Mara and the Ol Pejeta Conservancy – and can be tailored to a variety of group sizes. The camp can be set up with two to 12 tents, accommodating between four and 24 people.
Each tent features either a twin or king bed and boasts a private veranda overlooking the wild surroundings. En suite bathrooms include a modern toilet, a tin basin sink with running water and a large shower with hot water.
The tents are locally made and feature bespoke furniture and Kitenge prints, as well as modern comforts like charging points by beds, 24-hour solar electricity and laundry service.
The camp also features two family tents connected by a corridor, allowing guests to reach each other without having to leave their room – a first for a mobile camp in East Africa, according to the luxury operator.
A dining tent stands at the centre of the mobile camp, where an on-site chef prepares locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. Guests can also enjoy freshly prepared meals under the stars by the campfire.
A fully stocked bar features an array of premium wines, spirits and Kenyan-made craft beers.
A&K said when the safari is finished, the camp is packed up, leaving no trace.
"We are thrilled to launch our newest mobile tented camp in Kenya, which offers an immersive and authentic safari experience that is second to none," said A&K founder Geoffrey Kent.
"Kenya is the quintessential safari destination, and where I started A&K over 60 years ago. With its vast savannahs, incredible wildlife, and rich cultural heritage, Kenya offers the same authentic safari experience that A&K made famous.
“Our camp is designed to provide guests with an unforgettable journey through this stunning landscape, where they can connect with nature, learn about the local culture, and create memories, while leaving zero footprint.”
Activities are dependent on the location of the camp and can be tailored to suit guests' needs.
In the Masai Mara, clients can embark on a 4x4 game drive, enjoy views of the plains from a hot-air balloon or enjoy a private picnic lunch.
In the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, days can be spent on guided bush walks or tracking lions. Ol Pejeta is also home to the last two northern white rhinos in the world.
Guests of the new tented camp can also visit A&K’s philanthropic projects in the area, which aim to support local communities and promote conservation efforts.
One of the operator’s most significant projects in Kenya is a lunch feeding programme at two schools in the Masai Mara – Enkereri School and Partakilat School – where more than 600 lunches are given out each day.
Guests can visit the schools and meet with the students and teachers to learn more about the operator’s work and its impact on the local community.
A&K Tented Camp, Masai Mara and A&K Tented Camp, Ol Pejeta are now on sale, and will open on June 1.
Abercrombie & Kent offers a four-night trip from £6,250pp based on four people sharing two tents. The price includes flights, one night at Hemingways Nairobi, three nights at A&K Tented Camp on an all-inclusive basis, park fees and transfers.
