Review: 7Pines Resort Sardinia

Cradled in the tranquil cove of Baja, this property fosters a sense of relaxation as soon as you arrive

Location: Cradled in the tranquil cove of Baja, overlooking the marine-protected Maddalena islands and north of the exclusive Costa Smeralda. 7Pines Resort Sardinia, part of Destination by Hyatt, is a 40-minute drive from Olbia airport.

First impressions: The moment I stepped into the lobby, I felt a weight lift. The combination of epic ocean views, clear blue skies and the warm Mediterranean sun was the medicine I needed, and I immediately knew I was going to love my stay. I quenched my thirst with a homemade glass of fresh lemonade while I was checked in. Intoxicating aromas of herbs and flowers filled the air on the short route to my suite.

The facts: Set on 15 hectares of fragrant gardens that meander down to three secluded beaches, 7Pines has 76 rooms including 28 suites. Guests can relax in the Pure Seven spa, laid out around a lush calming courtyard, and enjoy a selection of treatments, sauna, steam room and hammam. There’s a fully equipped gym with the option of a personal trainer – and you may need this once you’ve visited the three amazing restaurants and six bars.

I firmly recommend clients make their way to Cone Club at the end of every day. Here you can watch the sunset while enjoying handcrafted cocktails, set to an epic chill-out playlist from the house DJ. 7Pines, which also has a property in Ibiza, has become known for its sunset spots, and the view from Cone Club draws in crowds seeking great photo opportunities. If you are stuck for something to do you can hire one of the tennis courts, jump on an e-bike, book a yoga or meditation session, or go snorkelling, paddleboarding or kayaking. And if money is no object, recommend your clients charter a yacht for the day.

Ideal for: Food lovers and people who want to switch off and recharge their batteries. Mindfulness and wellbeing are key pillars of the 7Pines brand. The relaxed atmosphere and friendliness of the staff is like a warm hug.

Explore: Charter a Hermes rib boat and explore the nearby islands, take a dip in the crystal-clear Mediterranean Sea and enjoy a spot of lunch or a cheeky cocktail at a secluded restaurant. Nearby Porto Cervo – home to a marina and dubbed ‘the millionaires’ playground’ – is worth a visit.

Wow: Book a dining experience with executive chef Pasquale D’Ambrosio. He cooks up a storm and shows guests exactly how he puts his creations together using local produce, with most of the herbs and vegetable grown in the resort’s gardens. His character is infectious and he makes you feel as passionate about food as he is. The 11-course menu is simply divine.

Book it: Rooms lead in at £284 per night on a B&B basis.
