The Dorchester unveils new ground floor following lengthy renovation

Iconic London hotel The Dorchester has unveiled a new ground floor following a lengthy renovation, with transformed spaces including The Promenade, Vesper Bar and the new Artists’ Bar.

The Artists’ Bar (pictured) will focus on champagne, seafood and entertainment and features a Lalique crystal design and restored mirrored piano from American pianist Liberace.

Cocktails are served table-side on bespoke trolleys and are said to be inspired by the bar's artwork. Each piece was created by artists working in Britain and crosses a range of media and techniques in celebration of the city of London, the hotel and the famous figures associated with the property.

Outside, the new lobby and connecting Promenade was designed by French interior designer Pierre Yves-Rochon, who used a fresh mix of colours inspired by the British landscape. The Promenade is flanked by pillars and features white and sage green ceilings and gold leaf accents.

Surrounded by modern British restaurant The Grill, three-Michelin starred Alain Ducasse and famed Cantonese eatery China Tang, the brand said The Promenade would return as the “ever-welcoming heart” of The Dorchester.

Elsewhere, the space formerly housing legendary cocktail institution The Bar at The Dorchester has been transformed into Vesper Bar.

The space, designed by Swedish architect Martin Brudnizki, draws on the links from the James Bond series to The Dorchester and its author, Ian Fleming, who invented the Vesper Martini.

The bar’s new interior is inspired by the “spirit and elegance of the roaring thirties” and features a new layout which allows for a dedicated Park Lane entrance and an outside terrace with views towards Hyde Park.

Ornate design runs throughout the bar, including a 1930s Palladium leaf ceiling. The upper area and ‘snug’ provide more privacy “without compromising on atmosphere”, the brand added.

The bar’s cocktail menu will showcase both timeless and signature cocktails inspired by the hotel and curated by award-winning drinks connoisseur and head bartender Lucia Montanelli.
