Mandarin Oriental to open its first hotel in Athens

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has signed an agreement to manage its first property in the Greek capital, Athens.

The hotel group has partnered with Greek investment holding company Lamda Development and investor and developer Temes to open Mandarin Oriental, Athens on the coastal front of The Ellinikon, a planned smart city on the outskirts of the capital.

Current plans include a five-star hotel with 123 rooms and suites and 17 luxury branded residences, set to open in summer 2027. 

Mandarin Oriental, Athens will offer views of the Saronic Gulf and direct access to the sea. The cosmopolitan Agios Kosmas Marina is also nearby. 

The hotel will offer “an array” of dining options and leisure offerings. It will also feature indoor and outdoor event spaces for meetings and social gatherings.

The Spa at Mandarin Oriental with offer the group’s signature wellness therapies and beauty treatments, with a focus on locally inspired programmes.

Mandarin Oriental said the combination of “high-end contemporary design, unobstructed sea views and a premium coastal beachfront location in the heart of the Athenian Riviera” would make the property “a truly singular destination”.

Group chief executive James Riley said:  "We are delighted to be working with TEMES SA and Lamda Development SA on this project. I am confident that with this location and our legendary service, Mandarin Oriental, Athens will be the leading luxury hospitality hub for both travellers and Athenian residents.”

Odisseas Athanasiou, chief executive of Lamda Development, added: “This new high-standard hotel complex will become another aesthetically superior landmark and serve as an additional international point of reference for this iconic investment of The Ellinikon.”

Mandarin Oriental, Athens will be the group’s second property to launch in Greece, following the opening of Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino this spring.
