Kerzner International unveils first hotel under new Rare Finds brand

Kerzner International has named Bab Al Shams Desert Resort in Dubai as the first property under its new hotel brand Rare Finds.

The new collection will shine a spotlight on properties with a “unique identity, location, talent and expertise” and focus largely on destination and culture.

Under Kerzner's management, Bab Al Shams Desert Resort will close next month for an extensive refurbishment before reopening under the Rare Finds brand in early 2023.

The renovation will introduce a completely new look for the hotel while maintaining its equestrian identity.

Updated culinary experiences will include modern Arabic cuisine, a rooftop lounge and al fresco dining and Kerzner will re-introduce a desert infinity pool featuring sun-loungers and private cabanas.

The Desert Spa will offer traditional and contemporary treatments such as hammam and hot sand therapy, with facilities including sauna and steam rooms, an indoor courtyard pool, a relaxation area and couples’ treatment rooms with plunge pools. There will also be a Body & Soul Centre with fitness facilities.

Bab Al Shams Desert Resort will offer a range of curated itineraries and tailored outdoor activities such as desert equestrian sports, star gazing with in-house astronomers, sandboarding among the dunes, archery, desert safaris and hot air balloon rides.

The family-friendly property will also have break out spaces and activities including a game room and family entertainment venue.

Philippe Zuber, chief executive of Kerzner International, said: “I am excited to welcome Bab Al Shams Desert Resort to the newly introduced Rare Finds collection. The addition of this legacy landmark desert resort marks Kerzner International’s continued growth and expansion within the region.

“We have been part of Dubai’s storied history with one of the first ultra-luxury resorts with One&Only Royal Mirage followed by the epochal Atlantis, The Palm and we continue to be very bullish on the destination with the upcoming opening of Atlantis, The Royal Resort & Residences later this year and One&Only One Za’abeel joining Bab Al Shams next year.

“We are thrilled to continue to be part of the future of Dubai, and we look forward to welcoming guests to discover this new, evolved idyllic retreat.”

Issam Galadari, chief executive of Bab Al Shams Desert Resort owner Meydan City Corporation, added: “Bab Al Shams is the original immersive desert experience in Dubai, having first opened its doors in 2004.

“We are looking forward to working closely with the Kerzner team to bring their exceptional service standards and renowned expertise to invigorate and breathe new life into this resort, that holds a special place in the hearts of UAE residents and visitors alike”.

Kerzner International, whose other brands include One&Only, Atlantis and Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort, said it will continue to “strategically grow” the Rare Finds portfolio over the coming years.
