Luxury Maldivian resort Joali has added a sister island dedicated to wellbeing.
Opening at the end of 2021, Joali Being is located on the island of Bodufushi in Raa Atoll, a short seaplane flight away from Male International Airport.
The retreat features 68 private beach and water villas, each with their own personal butler, private pool and a variety of personalised features including customised minibar setups, meditative musical instruments and wellbeing games.
Upon arrival, guests will receive an in-depth consultation with a personal wellbeing consultant and receive a personalised wellness programme integrating both traditional and modern methods.
Programmes centre around four key pillars of wellbeing, including mind, skin, microbiome and energy and can be tailored to areas such as women’s health, digestive and weight rebalance, mental clarity and restorative sleep.
Resident wellbeing experts on the island will include a herbalist, naturopaths, therapists, movement experts and nutritionists.
Joali Being will feature a wellbeing centre, Areka, home to 39 treatment rooms and spaces including a sensory deprivation room, a Russian Banya, a salt inhalation room, an overwater meditation deck and a sound therapy hall. There will also be a herbology centre, Aktar.
An open-plan dining space known as Flow will feature a number of culinary options, including vegetarian cuisine at Plantae, pescatarian fare at Su and earth-to-table meals at B’Well.
There will also be a three-level sun deck called Mojo and a tea lounge called Sai.
Joali said the new property had been built using Biophilic design principles, a scientific system of architecture and design which integrates nature, in order to preserve the island’s wild forest.
Joali Being will also feature a turtle conservation sanctuary, a reef restoration project and coral nursery, and sustainable initiatives such as a rainwater harvesting system, a food waste composter and a plant waste shredder for fertilising.
