Celebrity Edge embarks on first transatlantic crossing

New ship Celebrity Edge has embarked on a two-week transatlantic crossing ahead of a winter series of cruises from Florida.

The Celebrity Cruises vessel set off from the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire on Sunday and is due to arrive at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale on November 19.

More than 1,400 crew members and others are putting the finishing touches to ship as it sails across the Atlantic.

The ship enters service on December 9 on a maiden western Caribbean itinerary followed on December 16 with an alternating eastern Caribbean cruise.

Celebrity Edge will then re-position in spring 2019 to run seven to 11-night sailings in the Mediterranean including calls at Barcelona and the port for Rome.

Sister ship Celebrity Apex joins the fleet in 2020 followed by two additional Edge class vessels in 2021 and 2022.
