Atlantis Dubai earns Certified Autism Centre designation

Sister resorts Atlantis, The Palm and Atlantis The Royal have earned the Certified Autism Centre (CAC) designation from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES).

The certification requires at least 80% of staff to complete a training and review process to better understand and assist autistic and sensory-sensitive guests.

More than 90% of guest-facing colleagues across both resorts underwent “extensive” training.

The brand’s learning and development team also held a weekly briefing on autism and sensory awareness, which an additional 1,500 staff took part in.

Atlantis Dubai said the designation “reflects the team’s unwavering commitment to providing exceptional experiences to guests with diverse needs and ensuring an inclusive environment”.

As well as staff training, Atlantis Dubai is enhancing accessibility through downloadable guides which provide a sensory rating for each of the facilities and activities across the resorts.

Quiet zones can also be found across both properties.

Atlantis Aquaventure waterpark, also part of Atlantis Dubai, earned CAC designation in 2023.

Kelly Timmins, director of marine animal operations and sustainability at Atlantis Dubai, said: “We are incredibly proud to become the first resort destination in the Eastern Hemisphere to earn the Certified Autism Centre designation.

“Partnering with IBCCES is part of our long-term Corporate Social Responsibility strategy under the Atlantic Atlas Project, with initiatives focused on supporting people and the planet on our journey to becoming a sustainable tourism business.”

Myron Pincomb, IBCCES board chairman, added: “Atlantis Dubai is at the forefront of revolutionising accessibility standards within the hospitality industry.

“This collective commitment across the industry is propelling Dubai towards its goal of becoming a Certified Autism Destination.”
