AmaWaterways’ remaining 2020 river cruise season has been suspended, including all scheduled departures in Europe, Asia and Africa.
The suspension does not apply to a chartered river cruise series on the Rhine that has been operating since July.
The river cruise line is offering a future cruise credit equal to 115% of the fare paid, allowing passengers to reschedule until December 31, 2022.
The debt-free family-owned company says it is in a position of financial strength and remains focused on the future.
Its European fleet and crew are ready to resume sailing in spring 2021, as long as international travel restrictions are lifted and passengers can travel safely.
The compamy said: “The pent-up demand for intimate river cruise holidays continues to rise among travellers who appreciate the personalisation and security that comes with cruising on small ships travelling on inland waterways to less-visited towns and villages.”
Two new ships will be introduced on the Rhine plus five new itineraries and land programmes throughout Europe in 2021.
AmaWaterways alos plans a return to the River Nile in Egypt with newly designed AmaDahlia.
Executive vice president and co-founder Kristin Karst said: “We are so thankful for the patience and understanding of our guests and travel agent partners.
“Although this year has brought many unprecedented challenges, it has also underscored the importance of facing these obstacles with flexibility and optimism.
“We are confident that our 2021 and 2022 river cruise season will create incredible experiences and cherished memories that are well worth the wait.”
