Updated: Amanzoe resumes operations following wildfire incident

Greek resort Amanzoe has reopened after a wildfire damaged the property and forced it to evacuate its guests and staff.

Aman confirmed the property had resumed operations on July 9 in a statement to trade and media partners.

The hotel group said the team was "systematically working through reservations in priority of date order" and asked agents to direct all enquires to their account manager rather than contacting the hotel.

"Thanks to the heroic efforts of the local authorities and volunteers, the extent of the fire was not as fierce as initially feared, thus enabling Amanzoe to confidently recommence with its summer season," the statement said.

General manager Ernst Ludick confirmed last week that a "limited number" of pavilions and sections of the surrounding landscape had been damaged by the fire, while the main areas of the hotel, including all villas, remained intact.

Ludick confirmed that all guests and staff were safe and had been moved to alternative accommodation.

“Today, I am relieved to confirm that the damage from the fire is not as bad as initially feared,” he said in an email statement to trade and media partners," he said.

“All guests and staff were safely and swiftly moved to alternative accommodation. Furthermore, I can report that all main areas of the hotel have been preserved, with exterior damage to just a limited number of pavilions, while all villas remain intact.

“Sections of the surrounding landscape have been impacted, however I am hopeful that the property will resume full operations for the peak season in the not-too-distant future.”

Ludick said Aman would be working through all outstanding bookings in date order, with the team prioritising those with imminent reservations. He asked agents to direct any calls to their account manager.

“On behalf of my team, we are truly grateful for your understanding and well wishes during this difficult time and look forward to providing further updates in due course,” he added.

Amanzoe is located on Greece's eastern Peloponnesian peninsula in Porto Heli and features 38 pavilions, eight villas, three restaurants and an Aman spa.
