LOCATION: Perched on the edge of the rocky coastline of Virgin Gorda a boat or helicopter ride away from the airport.

FIRST IMPRESSION: I don’t swear a lot. Hardly ever in fact. And I certainly don’t when I’m in a good mood.Driving a golf buggy (I made them let me drive) up a sharpish incline towards my room in Oil Nut Bay I was in a particularly good mood.But just a few minutes later I was cursing like a tourettes sufferer at a profanity party. The catalyst was my room – one of three of The Cliffs rooms that were newer than my haircut when I stayed there in March (2013).A short walk down neatly hewn stone steps and round the bend I went. I’ve stayed in bigger rooms, I’ve stayed in grander rooms and I’ve stayed in more expensive rooms. But I’ve not unleashed a torrent of the worst word that you can say before.Home for the night looked like it had fallen from the sky at great speed and smashed (somehow pristine with made beds and lovely toiletries) into the rocks burying all but the façade and a plunge pool.And thankfully it landed at an angle that makes you feel like you might be the only person in the world. As far as the eye and indeed binocular can see is ocean and the rugged, untouched coastline of Virgin Gorda. The only thing that might interrupt the view is a wale popping up for air. And I don’t suppose your client would mind too much.

THE FACTS: Inside are clean lines, simple décor, a wall of glass running along the whole sea-side side and an overwhelming feeling of being in the future. Not the distant future, just 20 years or so. Where everything is a little bit cooler.As I mentioned there are just three rooms. Two like mine and a penthouse FENDI Casa designed suite that someone prettier than me got to stay in because it’s the turbo-posh one.But guests have access to all the facilities of Oil Nut Bay which is an eco-friendly holiday home resort for people with bundles of cash set across 300 acres. This means pools, restaurants, watersports, bars and some other people around. Not too many mind. Nobody likes a golf cart traffic jam.

WOW: Opening the curtains in the morning. I’d imagine it’s a bit like opening the pearly gates and having your first peek at heaven. But with amazing coffee and a plunge pool two yards away. From £990 a nightOilnutbay.com
