FIRST IMPRESSIONS: The classy but cool grandfather of Antiguan resorts. You can tell immediately that this place is a home from home for at least three generations. Imagine the best wedding you’ve ever been to – that’s the atmosphere here all the time, just replace the white dress with tennis whites. Angelic children stroll the grass barefooted, classic sterling silver houses the milk, tea and sugar and the finest banana bread in history graces the breakfast table. These, in tandem with other fine touches peppered throughout the resort, conspire to create a rare old-world glamour that successfully blends tradition with modern necessities such as a truly glorious spa.The most recent addition is Sea Grape – a casual waters-edge restaurant headed up by Italian chef Antimo Barca who was previously the executive chef of the governor of the Cayman Islands.Meals somehow feel like an event, not a solitary nutrient stock up and although guests are able to enjoy privacy, should they so desire, it doesn’t seem to be a popular choice so sociable is the atmosphere.

THE FACTS: As the name suggests the hotel sits on a rocky bluff jutting into the sea between two beaches. One is calm, the other washed by ocean surf. There are 72 rooms and suites and facilities include a championship tennis center, a fully equipped watersports centre (scuba, deep-sea fishing, Windsurfing, paddle-boarding, waterskiing, Hobie Cats and kayaks), a squash court, a fitness centre, a beachside pool and bar and a spa.

WOW: There are no keys for the doors, unless you really really want one. This creates a wonderful sense of community in resort.
