WTM 2016: Minor Hotels announces 50 property expansion
Minor Hotels is looking to add at least 50 more properties to its portfolio over the next five years.
The expansion plan will see the group move into new destinations, such as Anantara's first foray into Europe and the launch of two new Tivoli properties in the Middle East. The latter will be the first Tivoli hotels outside Portugal and Brazil.
Michael Marshall, chief commercial officer at Minor Hotels, said: "We are looking at new locations and destinations. We already have 37 Anantara properties but we want that to grow to 60 and 10 of those locations a re already being plotted and planned.
"The group has 155 hotels and we aim to grow that to between 200 and 230 within the next five years.
"We want to grow Anantara, Tivoli and Avani - all are so distinct from one another and each has so much opportunity for expansion."
The locations of the new Tivoli properties in the Middle East are yet to be revealed.
Anantara will open its first European property in Vilamoura, Portugal, currently operating under sister brand Tivoli, will become Anantara Vilamoura Algarve Resort from April 2017.
The Portuguese property will be rebranded as Anantara in spring and ahead of that the resort will have a refurbishment, with the main lobby and the gym being transformed and new children facilities being added.
A new luxury family suite category will be added to the property, for up to four guests.
The rooftop, will become the two bedroom Anantara Suite with its own private dining area, jacuzzi and sun deck.
The move into Europe is part of parent Minor Hotels' plan to expand into new destinations. Across its six brands, the group operates 155 hotels but plans to grow that to between 200 and 230 within the next five years.
Anantara currently operates 37 hotels in 12 countries, with recently opened resorts in Sri Lanka and Oman.
