Uniworld boss to embark on second fundraising bike ride for cancer charity

Uniworld managing director Chris Townson will embark on another lengthy cycle ride in aid of a cancer charity which supported his wife.

Townson (pictured second right) plans to cycle 75 miles along the Cornish coastline in three days to fundraise for The Christie Charitable Fund as a thank you for the support the charity gave his wife Emma, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in March last year.

Emma is now in remission after undergoing chemotherapy and surgery.

Last year, Townson cycled 60 miles from Manchester to Blackpool to fundraise for the same charity. He will be joined by four friends for this year’s cycle, which starts on April 27, and he hopes to raise a minimum of £1,000.

“We had amazing support from The Christie Charitable Fund, they were hugely supportive all the way,” Townson told Travel Weekly.

“Some of the cancer drugs my wife had were actually developed by the charity and launched in the last two years, so research and development is a huge area that needs investment to improve cancer tracking and implement new drugs.

“Cycling 75 miles in three days sounds quite easy, but most people cycle that distance over five days. It will be a very challenging trek which will be extremely testing.

“If anyone can spare a few pounds, dollars, pesos or other currencies to support the cause, it would be greatly appreciated.”
