Silversea is celebrating the float-out of its second Nova-class ship, Silver Ray, with sailings set to begin in June.

The vessel, which will become the sixth addition to the line’s fleet in three years, took its latest step towards completion on February 25 at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

Silversea president Barbara Muckermann said “excitement is building” for the launch of the ship, whose sister Silver Nova made its debut in August last year.

Meyer Werft project manager Thorsten Kroes added: “Reaching the major milestone of the float-out, we now approach the completion of Silver Ray. The Meyer team is now working on getting this beautiful ship ready for her upcoming sea trials.”

Silver Ray will soon travel 20 miles along the River Ems to the North Sea ahead of sea trials.

Meyer Werft first cut steel on the 728-passenger ship around 15 months ago.

The latest progress included the welding of a newly minted, commemorative coin to a wall on the pool deck, with Captain Alessandro Zanello performing the task. It is considered a symbol of good luck.

Silver Nova and Silver Ray are 40% more energy efficient than required international standards and regulations, according to Silversea.

Silver Ray will start sailing in the Mediterranean in June, before crossing the Atlantic.
