Sanctuary Retreats launch new Burma river cruise ship
The 21-suite Sanctuary Ananda is named from the Sanskrit word for ‘higher happiness’, and passengers on the luxury craft are likely to be pleased – the ship will offer the largest entry level cabins, and the largest deluxe suite, of any ship sailing the Ayeyarwady.
Facilities include a sundeck with a plunge pool, an air-conditioned panorama lounge, a spa and a gym. The restaurant will serve both Burmese and Western options at every meal, and rates include all meals, local beer and soft drinks.
Sanctuary Ananda will offer eight itineraries, including core Discovery Cruises of three, four and seven nights between Mandalay and Bagan, and less frequent Exploration Cruises of seven, 10 and 11 nights that cruise the both the lower and upper Ayeyarwady from Yangon up to Bhamo, and on the Chindwin river.
Alongside more classic sightseeing, Sanctuary will offer guests traditional Burmese experiences including sunrise meditation training, betel-chewing lessons, cooking demonstrations, and lectures.
The ship is already on sale, with trade rates available for agents through Sanctuary Retreats. Itineraries are also bookable through operators including Cox & Kings and Ampersand Travel.
Prices for December 2014 sailings start from £1,669 per person twinshare for a three night cruise in a Deluxe Suite.
