Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, London has officially opened following a ribbon cutting ceremony at the property on June 3.
The hotel is the brand’s second outpost in the city, joining sister property Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park.
Key Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group stakeholders, partners and media were in attendance to witness the cutting of the ribbon by the hotel’s general manager Susanne Hatje; Torsten Van Dullemen, area vice-president for the UK and Northern Europe; chef Akira Back, who makes his London restaurant debut at the property; and celebrity fan of Mandarin Oriental, Dame Darcey Bussell.
Mandarin Oriental Mayfair is located on Hanover Square and features 50 guest rooms and suites as well as 77 private residences.
The first new-build hotel in Mayfair for more than a decade, it features a subterranean spa, state-of-the-art gym and bar lounge. Alongside the Akira Back restaurant, dining options include the 14-seat chef’s table venue Dosa.
A rooftop bar will open later in 2024 overlooking the London skyline.
Rooms, suites and residences were designed by British brand Studio Indigo, featuring an emerald-green, maroon and turquoise colour palette as well as fine timbers, marbles, soft fabrics and carpets, bespoke lighting and furniture, and metallic finishes in brass, bronze and gold.
House of de Gournay hand-painted silk wallpaper as a focal point of the rooms with a flowering magnolia design a nod to the trees found in Hanover Square.
Tokyo-based design agency Curiosity was responsible for the interior design in public spaces, with rare green Ming marble featuring heavily in the lobby, reception and spa. Elsewhere, dining spaces are inspired by the natural elements of wind, water, earth and fire and channelled through choreographed lighting, suspended structures and metallic ceilings.
The property also features a signature fan designed exclusively by the House of Vivienne Westwood.
