Lufthansa unveils €2.5 billion long-haul travel revamp

A ‘flying private room’ for first class passengers flying with Lufthansa has been unveiled as part of a €2.5 billion long-haul travel revamp.

The Suite Plus concept comprises a double cabin with ceiling-high walls, closable door, table and two wide seats that can be combined into a double bed.

The new first class will be introduced in 2024 on newly delivered Airbus A350s as part of the airline’s ‘Allegris’ long-haul offering.

The revamp covers all travel classes including economy, premium economy, business and first class.

‘Allegris’ is part of the largest product and service overhaul in the German airline group’s history, with a total investment of €2.5 billion by 2025.

Business class passengers will be offered seven seat options, including suites for the first time featuring 27-inch monitors, wardrobe, personal minibar and seats which convert into a bed.

A new premium economy class, already introduced by Swiss a year ago, offers more legroom, a fold-out leg rest, and can be adjusted even further back than the current design.

Better seat pitch in economy will be offered together with tablet holders, USB ports and the possibility to book an adjoining free seat.

More than 27,000 seats are being replaced as part of the ‘Allegris’ project as aircraft such as Boeing 747s are retrofitted, while 80 new aircraft, such as Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, A350s and Boeing 777-9s will feature the new long-haul offering.

Lufthansa Airlines chef executive Jens Ritter said: ”Every guest has their own understanding of premium, which is why we focus on maximum individuality and exclusivity.

“The first class Suite Plus conveys the feeling of privacy and individuality similar to a hotel room – only at an altitude of 11 kilometres.

“The Allegris range promises individuality, exclusivity, and premium service along the entire travel chain.”
