Boutique Nairobi property Giraffe Manor, where guests can famously enjoy breakfast or afternoon tea with the hotel’s resident herd, has announced a new expansion.

The Retreat is a standalone building in the grounds of the hotel with day rooms, a café, a small spa and a 21m infinity pool, where guests may find the giraffes stop by for a visit while they swim.

Launched in August, the new area provides a wellness experience for residents at Giraffe Manor and a day room facility for guests of The Safari Collection’s other three Kenyan properties looking for a luxurious stopover in Nairobi.

Built in a style that pays homage to the main house, The Retreat’s high arched windows overlook the forested giraffe sanctuary. On the first floor, en-suite bedrooms can be booked for the day, or guests can enjoy the pool, sundeck and breezy rooftop garden. 

Daisy’s Café serves up a menu of freshly-prepared meals and snacks at any time of day, with a focus on farm to fork-style cuisine. The spa features two en-suite treatment rooms and a steam room, sauna, hot tub and gym.

The Retreat is exclusive to guests of The Safari Collection portfolio and can only be booked in combination with one or more of the bush properties (Sasaab, Solio Lodge and/or Sala’s Camp). Facilities are complimentary to overnight guests in residence at Giraffe Manor, excluding spa treatments, food and drinks.

Giraffes do not have access to rooms or dining areas at The Retreat. Direct contact with the giraffes is possible at the end of the pool, although as wild animals The Safari Collection cannot guarantee their presence at any given time.

Rates for day rooms at The Retreat start from US$800 per room and include complimentary water, a selection of soft drinks, a homemade snack and use of The Retreat’s facilities (pool, gym, steam room, sauna, hot tub). Rates exclude spa treatments, other food and drink, transfers, excursions and access to Giraffe Manor.

The Retreat Pass, from US$250 per person is valid from 10am to 10pm. It includes complimentary water, luggage storage and use of The Retreat’s facilities (pool, gym, steam room, sauna, hot tub). All food and drinks, day room use, spa treatments, transfers, excursions and access to Giraffe Manor is excluded. 

The Retreat Early Bird package is valid from 6am to 12 noon. It includes a continental breakfast, complimentary water, luggage storage and the use of The Retreat’s facilities (pool, gym, steam room, sauna, hot tub), subject to availability. The giraffes do not have access to breakfast at The Retreat. All other food and drinks, day room use, spa treatments, transfers, excursions and access to Giraffe Manor are excluded.
