Oberoi Group chair emeritus PRS Oberoi, recognised as a luminary in the hospitality industry, has died aged 94.

The Indian luxury hospitality group confirmed his death while paying tribute to a “visionary leader”.

The company said: “Mr Oberoi’s legacy transcends borders, leaving an indelible mark on the global landscape.

“A visionary leader, Mr PRS Oberoi’s unwavering dedication and pursuit of excellence elevated The Oberoi Group to international acclaim.

“His influence extended beyond corporate success, touching the lives of countless hoteliers through mentorship and a commitment to unparalleled standards.”

The Oberoi Group set new benchmarks for luxury and quality under his guidance, achieving unprecedented success globally.

“Mr Oberoi’s impact, however, reached far beyond business achievements, as he fostered a corporate culture rooted in compassion, integrity, and genuine care for every member of our organisation,” the company added.

He received India’s second highest civilian honour in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the country in tourism and hospitality and received many other awards.

Popularly known as ‘Biki, PRS Oberoi was the son of the founder of the Oberoi Group.

He was educated in India, the UK and in Switzerland and recognised for being instrumental in pioneering the development of Oberoi Hotels and Resorts, with the opening of several luxury properties.
