Coin ceremony held for Explora Journeys’ second ship

The traditional coin ceremony has taken place for Explora Journeys’ second ship Explora II.

The ceremony, which is a historical sign of blessing at the start of a ship-building process, took place at the Fincanteri shipyard in Italy on February 8.

Explora II is scheduled to enter service in July 2024, while sister ship Explora I will take its maiden voyage in July this year in Northern Europe.

Michael Ungerer, chief executive of Explora Journeys, said: “The event today is another major step forward on our mission to redefine ocean travel for today’s discerning luxury travellers.

“Explora II, and her sister ship Explora I, due to perform her inaugural journey in mid-July from Southampton, will blend renowned destinations seen through a different lens and unique off-the-beaten-path ports, offering the next generation of luxury travellers highly curated, transformative and immersive experiences.”

Between August 2024 and April 2025, Explora II will sail in the Mediterranean, Middle East, Indian Ocean and Africa, and visit 82 ports in 26 countries.
