Charitable Travel donates £10,000 from Morocco earthquake support appeal

An appeal to support victims of the deadly Moroccan earthquake has made it first donation.

The Charitable Travel Fund Morocco Earthquake Support Appeal, led by Charitable Travel, transferred £10,000.

The funds have gone to an NGO in the Asni Valley of the High Atlas Mountains to support local communities that depend on tourism but hit by the 6.8 magnitude quake on September 8.

The earthquake struck in the mountain region 70 kilometres from Marrakech, killing 2,800 people and affecting more than 300,000 others.

The British Red Cross reported that search and rescue efforts are continuing.

Charitable Travel chief executive Melissa Tilling said the initial donation would help communities so devastated by the earthquake, adding: “Our fundraising continues.”

Meanwhile, Intrepid Travel’s Morocco Earthquake appeal has seen global donations top $402,000.
