Baillie Lodges acquires majority share in Chile’s Tierra Hotels

Australia-based boutique hotel brand Baillie Lodges has expanded in South America after acquiring a majority share in Chile’s Tierra Hotels.

Tierra’s trio of experiential luxury lodges comprise Tierra Patagonia in Torres del Paine National Park (pictured), Tierra Atacama in the northern desert of Chile, and Tierra Chiloé, which overlooks the coastline of Chiloé Island.

The partnership follows a long history of collaboration between the Baillie Lodges team and Tierra Hotels founder Miguel Purcell. The Purcell family, which has developed and operated Tierra Hotels since 2008, will retain an ownership stake in the portfolio and the three properties will keep the Tierra Hotels branding.

A statement from Baillie Lodges said the company intends to “meaningfully invest” in the Tierra Hotels properties and plans to expand the brand's platform through acquisitions and new greenfield developments.

The statement added that both Baillie Lodges and Tierra Hotels “provide access to incredible natural attractions in extraordinary locations” and share a commitment to sustainability.

The acquisition builds on Baillie Lodges’ existing portfolio of properties in Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Once the acquisition is complete, the company will own and operate ten lodges in total.

Baillie Lodges executive chairman Michael Moret-Lalli said: “This partnership is a natural fit for our companies and teams, and we look forward to sharing these wonderful new properties and experiences with our guests.

“Both brands share a vision for delivering exceptional, immersive experiences, and I am thrilled for our teams to join forces and continue exploring new frontiers in hospitality and leisure as the world gets back to traveling.”

Purcell added: “We are delighted to work with the Baillie Lodges team. We both take a personal approach to hospitality, customising unique and enriching experiences for guests who are looking to explore the world in a meaningful, sustainable way.”
