AndBeyond introduces first expedition yacht to South American portfolio

Conservation-led luxury travel company andBeyond is expanding its South American portfolio with the launch of its very first expedition yacht in the Galapagos Islands.

The Galapagos Explorer will sail for two seven-night itineraries with the first departure to take place on June 17.

The yacht features six suites and cabins to welcome 12 guests who will sail with two expert guides.

Due to the small number of guests, the Galapagos Explorer is said to be the “most exclusive yacht operating in the islands.”

The two different seven-night itineraries offer travellers the choice of exploring the east or the west of the islands.

Each of the islands has “unique geographical features” and has “created a distinct ecosystem of its own, with strict conservation measures in place to preserve the delicate balance.”

The eastern route includes sighting Kicker Rock and the critically endangered waved albatross in Gardner Bay.

The western itinerary explores the geographical centre of the Galapagos Islands, Sombrero Chino Island and encounters with the rare Sante Fe land iguana.

Both itineraries also include activities such as snorkelling, hiking and birdwatching.

AndBeyond executive chairman and chief executive, Joss Kent, said: “A uniquely biodiverse environment with the highest number of endemic species in the world, the Galapagos is a natural choice for the further expansion of our portfolio in South America.

“We are absolutely thrilled to finally have the opportunity to bring our brand of responsible tourism to this precious part of the world, which the Ecuadorian government has protected from over-tourism by strictly limiting the number of operating licenses issued.”

He added: “We have long believed that the best way to encourage our guests to help protect the world’s wild places is for our skilled guides to help travellers not only fall in love with those places, but also to gain an understanding of the threats they are facing.

“This is what we are aiming to do through the introduction of our luxury yacht where two knowledgeable guide will host just twelve guests, showcasing the wonder and mystery of this exceptional destination.”

With its expansion to the region, andBeyond plans to extend its Oceans Without Border initiative which focuses on marine conservation.

The company also hopes to implement projects that support Galapagos land and wildlife as well as train and upskill local residents.

Prices for both Galapagos Explorer itineraries start from $10,960 per person sharing.
