Saint Lucia’s Sugar Beach embarks on extensive renovation

Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort in Saint Lucia has closed for five months as it embarks on a “multi-phase" renovation.

The property will reopen on November 1, 2021, featuring nine new accommodations, a number of upgraded culinary outlets, a new beachside fitness facility and expansive amenity enhancements including a refreshed spa and a new main pool area.

“We are excited to kickstart this multi-phase renovation journey that will bring a new and elevated luxury guest experience to our already celebrated Sugar Beach property,” said general manager Mark Sterner.

“Every aspect of the renovation has been thoughtfully designed to bring the best out of each space and provide a new level of service, privacy and hospitality to our valued guests. Those visiting in November can expect to see Sugar Beach completely revived and like they’ve never experienced before.”

Sugar Beach’s fine-dining restaurant in the main house will gain a new open-air bar experience, while interiors will be refreshed to capitalise on its location overlooking the beach and the Unesco World Heritage-listed Pitons.

Enhancements will also be made to the popular al-fresco dining locations on the beach, including the expansion of an undercover outdoor seating area.

A multi-tiered landscaped design of the property’s iconic main pool area is being built to house a fleet of exclusive cabanas and a new poolside bar for light bites and drinks.

A special events lawn is also being landscaped overlooking the main pool to accommodate increased requests for private celebrations and functions.

Nine new luxury guest rooms will be added to the property, including four one-bedroom beachfront bungalows and five one-bedroom luxury cottages set higher up the mountain. Each will sport a contemporary interior design with a natural colour palette and views of the estate gardens, Pitons and beach.

A new spa and wellness experience will also debut in November. The property’s Rainforest Spa will gain a couple’s treehouse treatment room, which will be built on stilts and perched high above the ground.

The treatment room will have large glass windows that overlook the forest, an indoor free-standing bathtub, an outdoor shower and a balcony. It will bring the spa’s total number of treatment rooms to 10.

A new spa partner will be announced when the property reopens alongside a revised treatment menu and a refreshed lobby space.

On the beach, a new wellness and fitness facility is being built, featuring a gym and yoga studio.

Sugar Beach said those visiting in November will be the first to experience “this new chapter of its legacy”.
