Rosewood unveils details about second London property

Rosewood Hotels and Resorts has confirmed its second London property will be named The Chancery Rosewood.

The Mayfair property will be located at 30 Grosvenor Square and is scheduled to open in 2024.

Rosewood said the name reflected the history of the 1960s building, which previously housed the United States embassy and was the first purpose-built chancery in London.

The building’s original features and mid-century design details, including the grade II listed façade and diagrid ceiling, will be retained through a preservation process undertaken by British firm David Chipperfield Architects.

Interiors will be led by French architect Joseph Dirand and will feature a warm colour palette and refined, Art Deco-style detailing, walnut panelling and marble and brass accents.

The hotel will offer 139 guestrooms and suites, as well as dining venues, an integrative wellness facility, five retail outlets and a selection of meeting and event spaces including a 750-guest ballroom.

The hotel will be the brand’s second property in London, joining Rosewood London in Holborn, and its sixth hotel in Europe.

“We are proud to have The Chancery Rosewood lead the transformation of the revitalised Grosvenor Square, an incredible public interest initiative that is nearly a decade in the making,” said Sonia Cheng, chief executive officer of Rosewood Hotel Group.

“The gifted team of architects and designers will breathe a second life into the iconic building, which is poised to become a superlative destination in London, and we thank our partners at Qatari Diar for the chance to be a part of this remarkable project."
