One&Only Cape Town unveils new look following refurbishment

One&Only Cape Town has unveiled a new design following a recent refurbishment.

The renovation spanned all 133 rooms and suites, the entrance lobby, Vista Bar & Lounge and landscaping, with new flooring, fittings and fixtures.

The hotel has worked closely with local artists from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya and the new design reflects the destination’s ocean, land and heritage, including the topography of Table Mountain, the city’s mythology and its Indigenous plant species.

Vista Bar & Lounge at the centre of the resort now highlights the local legend fondly known as ‘The Watchers’ that describes the creation of Table Mountain.

Cape Town-based artist Stanislav Trzebinski was commissioned to create a centrepiece Watchers sculptor for the venue which presides over the bar in alignment with the view of Table Mountain. The pattern on the carpet also replicates the topography of Table Mountain.

Rooms and suites now feature an earthy colour scheme, warm lighting and organic materials including fabric inspired by the traditional Northern African mud cloth and handmade ceramics. Gemstone accents can also be found in drawer pulls and facetted artworks in a nod to South Africa’s history as the gemstone capital of the world.

The Cape Kelp Forest, one of the most intricate ecosystems in the world, found in the ocean waters off the coast of Cape Town, also influenced guest room design, with bespoke carpeting and scatter cushions reflecting the sea forestry.

Both the reception and lounge areas feature a warm, neutral colour palette with accents of  African patterns inspired by Cape flowers.

General manager Anne Scott said: “This is an incredibly exciting project for the One&Only Cape Town team and a testament to our confidence in the positive future direction of South African tourism.

“We’ve proudly incorporated local suppliers and artisans to create something magical – paying homage to African culture while retaining the innate One&Only ultra-luxury ethos.”

One&Only is located in the heart of the city at the V&A Waterfront, overlooking the marina and with views across to Table Mountain.
