The number of Brits travelling to the Indian Ocean island nation has gone up by nine percent in the last year.

In 2016, 28,000 people travelled to Mauritius for cruises alone, according to the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA).

That follows a double-digit percentage growth in visitors to the country in 2015.

To piggyback the growth in the UK market, the MTPA has announced it will be working closely with UK agents and trade partners throughout the year to raise awareness of the holiday options on the island.

The tourist board has revamped their traditional road show and will be hosting eight regional events for sales agents up and down the country. Each event will include an interactive quiz with rounds on key trade partners and the ability to win prizes.

The MTPA will also be hosting its first ever ‘Tour Operator social media’ fam trip in March. The trip will provide social media content managers with the opportunity to source images and ideas in order to share the destination with their customers.
